thank you for not feeling that a part of you was dying

thank you for gently caressing my skin
thank you for kissing the cuts so small and thin

thank you for taking me ever so gently down from the rope
thank you for washing the blood off me with soap

thank you for brushing my hair
thank you for singing our song before the cops got there

thank you for arranging the funeral plans
even tho they weren't the plans you had in mind,
thank you for leaving the other ones behind

thank you for speaking highly of me
in front of everyone at the ceremony

thank you for carrying my casket out
thank you for keeping your head held high even tho your world was spinning in a round about

thank you for finding the perfect spot to bury me
thank you for not being embarrassed of me

thank you for waiting till everyone was gone
so you could one last time, sing me our favorite song

thank you for making me look my best
before they laid me down to rest

thank you for kissing my forehead
before they sent me off to bed

and thank you for slipping a not inside my hand
