The Failed Escape

by Jenni Marie   Mar 26, 2007

Running along the floor
Heart pounding in my chest
Trying my hardest to get away
Before he sends me to my death.

Surroundings are just a blur
As I continue to speed on by
Want to curl up in a ball
No time to stop and cry.

Coming to the edge of the rooftop
Heart plummeting at the fifty foot drop
Chancing a glance behind me
Realizing there's no time to stop.

Leaping onto the grass below
Whole body shuddering with impact
Knowing I have to keep on moving
When I realize I'm still intact.

Weaving through people
He's still somewhere behind
So overcome with terror
Feel like I'm out of my mind.

Tripping over my own feet
Righting myself in haste
Needing to get out of here fast
Knowing a second's to much to waste.

Blood all over my body and clothes
From where he stuck the knife in before
Running as fast as I possibly can
Yet everything seems so slow.

Charging into the nearest store
Making a beeline for the phone
Suddenly the store is empty
I'm in this place alone.

Hearing the door open behind me
Turning slowly around
Thought I was almost safe
But now, I have been found.

Staring at the mask he's wearing
Wondering why I came to this place
Now there's no time left to wonder
'Cause he just aimed his gun at my face.
