You're resting against a big tree
The soft breeze stroking your hair
You're watching me play in the river
Splashing and laughing and romping about
You watch me with kind calm smiling eyes
And I flash a smile at you
You get out your camera and take a picture of me
I make a funny face
And you laugh cheerfully
Suddenly
I turn my back to you
To hide my tears
My tears of joy
Of fear
Of anger
Then I wipe off my tears
And turn to you
I give you the biggest smile I ever could have imagined
*this is a poem I wrote when I was 9, when I went to the river with my dad. I loved my dad, and still do.
