I Love You With What's Left of My Heart

by LostLikeTearsInRain   Mar 29, 2007

Hey Katie, how are you?
I thought we could just talk
Kind of like we used to

No sappy words that make you blush
No lame jokes that make you smile
Just you and I with a little heart to heart
I guess you could say a different social style

I love you
But I think you already knew that
I don't expect you to say "I love you too"
After all, you still have Matt

I wonder if you appreciate the memories
You know...the little things
Like standing on your tippy toes to kiss
Or staying up on the phone for eight hours

Or do you do that with him too?
I wouldn't know
I have spoken to you in three weeks
And I still can't let you go

I'm not the happy camper that I once was
Because I don't seem to find anything to be happy about
I can still hear your voice ringing in my ears
And that last phone call where all you did was shout

But you had every right to do so
I was actually going to let you hit me
But every time I got close to you
I felt like I was going to bust a knee

Maybe our paths will cross again one day
But to dwell on this hope isn't smart
I still love you Katie
I love you with what's left of my heart

I thought it was sad, but I really like the last stanza. You ended the poem with a lot of emphasis. Great job 5/5
