The Firefighter

by Jochsey   Mar 29, 2007

The pagers go off
in the middle of the night
I jump out of bed
'cause there's a fire to fight

On the way to the station
the adrenaline flows
'cause you'll never no
how fast the fire grows

At last I arrive
To get on the truck
I grab all my gear
Hoping we will still be in luck

The lights are flashing
And the sirens blaring
Cars are moving
And the public staring

We finally arrive
To the house well alight
Set up control
and get ready to fight

We hear from the house
screams of fear
A person is trapped
But we cannot get near

Finally we enter
with our rescue gear
And as much as we wish
The smoke is not clear.

There is a loud noise
We turn around to see
the roof coming down
there is no time to flee

If we are to survive
we must think fast
But its too late
there is another big blast

Two hero's gave their life
to try and save one
No-one wanted to admit
That the fire had won

Excellent job of sharing what goes on in your stressful line of work. You ahould be proud. It takes a special kind of person to risk their own life to save another and extra brownie points because you are a volunteer!
