How has life rewarded me
For living through each day,
For looking around the corner
For something to amaze?
How has life awarded me
For smiling when I speak,
For keeping a shining face around
For being strong among the meek?
Some might say that Mother Earth
Has a responsibility to mankind,
But when we look back at us,
It's difficult to find,
Any sort of way that we
Could possibly ask for more,
You ask how I've been rewarded?
I have so much more in store.
I have a family who cares for me,
Who hides me in their arms,
Who never lets me fail or quit,
Who keeps me far from harm.
I have friends so dear to me,
That are always there,
They never run or desert me,
And I know they always care.
I have a boyfriend who loves me,
Who never has a doubt,
The smile when I am crying,
The rain during my drought.
I have a life worth living,
And though sometimes, I wish it would end,
I have something people would die for,
Death has taken many of my friends.
Sadness gives way to happiness,
And my life is filled with joy,
Filled with love and tears and gifts
And all sorts of new-fangled toys.
So you still ask my why
Life hasn't rewarded me?
Look around, my friend, and
I think you'll begin to see.
