White iris

by beav   Apr 2, 2007

Planted the bulbs, seeds, tubers and roots.
carefully placed them in the ground,
tilled dirt, ameliorated the earth.
a sigh, no flowers to be found.

as grass overtakes, weeds sprout overnight.
the dense red-dirt clay and clover.
explore, a keen eye, search all the plant spots,
not once, but over and over.

looking intently, eleven acres.
searching for a token of bloom.
discouraged, disheartened, utterly spent,
succumb giving into the gloom,

then up ahead a mere glimmer of white.
move closer, what beauty to see!
a showing- white iris, flawless and tall.
a triumph of nature, indeed.

taken for granted, great things overlooked.
the world is a marvel, we know.
while we are seeking to find what we want,
around us the gifts of life grow.

This stnaza was my favorite. I was just thinking about this the other day. We are so very fortunate, and often times we don't see it. What a lovely poem. Put a smile on my face. Talk to you soon! :)
