Guiding Light

Why does it take a tragedy for us to see how blessed we are?
Like the death of a loved one, why does it have to go that far?
This is a story I feel, I need to tell,
It's about how to turn around, when you're going straight through hell.

When is it wrong? When is it right?
To stand up for what you believe in, to stand up and fight,
this is what you need to think about every day and night,
cause when I'm on a dark path, you're my guiding light.

When I feel I'm all alone, I got my best friend, more like my savior,
telling me every day that i need to watch my behavior,
cause it hurts her, to see me mad,
it hurts me even more, to see her sad,
She's put up a defense that's iron clad.
Maybe one day she'll bring it down,
so "we", can break new ground.

Something she told me one day, scared me to death,
she told me, that she hurts herself.
At that moment my heart sunk in,
cause if I ever lost her, my life would just end,
she's more than an acquaintance, she's my best friend.
I wanted to tell her that it will all be okay,
that she'll get through this, some how, some way.
There's been a question I've been asking myself,
why, oh why Lord, does my best friend hurt herself?
