The Things She Said

by James   Apr 5, 2007

July 6th, 1988
Sea of pure white
Challenging an angel’s birthright
Music of joy
Echoes in the ears of those who do not hear
Warm smiles greet the engaged

--Engaged in mist--
--Careless yet staring--
--As she once said--

Words be spoken
Vows instilled into history
Yet without a birth
Speech of a holy man
Answered by two words each
Seconds worth hours pass
Hourglass nailed to the ground
Lips lock
Crowd cheers with ignorance
One vow already broken

Time passes
Oil burns
Towers fall
Worldwide conspiracies
Conflicts of devils and demons
Something more closer to home
Grains of sand known as 2005

--Feelings left unheard--
--Living in hell--
--Yet still God’s own--
--A one way road to nowhere--
--No choice is what she meant--

Door slamming echoes around the courtyard
Open eyes walk blindly
Yelling stirs the sleeping crows
Violence awakens the night
Wine bottle held by red nails
Shadows play their games
Bloodstained broken glass
Bitter sweet moonlight
Reflections of life around the dismal room

--Lifting more crates soon--
--First lift myself--
--Cover my wounds--
--She was right--
--Nothing better is for me--.

Bell rings
Living corpses stumble off
Eating homemade sandwiches
Once honorable men
Speaking of loves
They once knew

--Could tell them--
--Of that one long ago--
--No matter the story--
--The last words escaping from me--
--She said I could never get a love--
--She told me to hold on to whomever, never let go--
--Dirt under her foot--

Broken man stumbles home
Nothing left of the story to unfold
Destroyed in soul and spirit
Left to wander through the land of mortals
A tormented ghost for us all to behold
