The Cross-Country Trip

by Heather   Apr 7, 2007

One day a young man decided to take a trip
from sea to shining sea.
Starting with Virginia
in Jamestown, where colonist tossed their tea.
Then to the battlefields of the Civil War
when Jackson stood like a stonewall
Up to Arlington where so many are buried
and where Lincoln sits up tall.
On to Pennsylvania and its Liberty Bell
hear its ring of "Brotherly Love"
He visited the Big Apple and its Lady
got lost with one push and shove.
Caught a plane out west from JFK
and landed in the Rockies to ski.
After a day he traveled up north
Stony faces he was gonna see.
Over the border to Yellowstone
and then to the Golden Bridge.
There he gazed over the water
along the ocean ridge.
Down to Vegas
where many gambled away.
Then on to the Alamo
here Crockett fought to stay
Back a few miles to the reservations
where America's first citizens reside.
A hop-skip and a jump to Texas football
their great joy and big pride.
He stayed alittle longer
to enjoy some home cooken.
His trip wasn't over yet
So he left again to keep on looken.
Grabbed a peach in Georgia
on his way to the Florida Keys.
Got chased by a croc
and some really nasty fleas.
He quickly left for his journey was done
O what a trip he had!
As he boarded his bus in Paris Isle
he couldn't help but be a little sad.
But now he knew why he had joined
for this he would defend.
As One of the Few the Proud
he'd go wherever they would send.
