Trainstation

by Arkon   Apr 10, 2007

One night I decide to sit on a chair
A chair by the stairs, in the middle of no where
Decide to sit back and watch the lights
The lights that would light up the four hours left of my night

If you took the time to sit down and watch their faces
You'd see all the unhappiness society created
The fascists that try to watch our lives
Exit the train as their cabs arrive

The poor, the hungry, and the plain unlucky
Sit quietly, in their vicious indifference
To them, this country won't fly
So they sit back and endure the ride

Then you see those who really don't care
They don't smile, they don't frown, they all just stare
And if it's their stop, they casually walk home
And if it's not, they usually just moan

If you had the time to just look around
And watch a train pass through your town
Maybe we could all see
Just what exactly is the american dream?

A happy family doesn't amount to much
When half the couples don't give a ****
And the kids grow up to care just the same
And their kids too, and it's really a shame

If lights and doors and mere passerby
Could compel people to give peace a try
Then maybe the world would settle down
Maybe our soldiers wouldn't be in the ground

Smiles and laughter may eventually return
And we won't have to watch our lives crash and burn
If this one little poem could spark a light
I'm hoping the whole world will ignite

But you know what? The government is apathetic
And one day they will regret it
But until that day comes, I'll sit here
Hoping my train is near

I agree with icarus. I believe that poverty is here to stay. Everyone can make a difference, if we tried and cared more. We may never completely fix things or make the world perfect but giving up, sitting back and watching people die is not right. A better tomorrow may never come but I look to it still. Amazing write.

Your poem is about a Utopian society. There will never be a perfect society, there will always be countless issues. Poverty will never be completely abolished, war will never cease. However, I agree that there are a lot of major flaws in our world and it is frustrating to know that if people just cared or made the effort things would be so much better. You will never fix everything but I applaud you efforts.
