Ponies, Ballerinas and Suicide Notes

by Ewa   Apr 10, 2007

Peel away the layers,

Throw out the empty skins

Layer one: Happiness
Clock chimes 3
Gotta get out,
Can't breathe
Look at the beautiful frown
No one dares to break down the door
Gasp for air,
Lungs fill up and only let out screams

Layer two: Security
Lock the doors
Keep the bad from coming in
Turn off the lights
Turn on the tv
It keeps the monsters away
Too weak to fight them alone
But this knight in shining armor
Cowers in fear
For whose to save our hero?

Layer three: Popularity
Find someone who really cares
What happened to the girl everyone loves?
Where did they all go?
"Everything else comes before them"
Yet, here she is, calling out
As all heads turn away
She's not there enough for them
Fighting wars against the voices yelling
"Why should she, when have they ever done the same?"

Layer four: Innocence
So many regrets flood her mind
Where did she go wrong?
It's not right to be so ok with it
Yet to yell it out to someone so important
She's never seen someone so hurt
And still absolutely terrified as he did
What could possibly possess her
To tell her father she wants nothing more than death
Forget it, sinners don't get halos.

Layer five: Brains
Wear the glasses
Hold the books
Just look inside the notebooks
Doodles and scribbles fill the pages
Fail tests but pretend
It was because of everything else
Have a deep conversation with her
And find the books are just for looks
For she's not deep at all

Layer six: Cherished
She sits and waits
He promised to call
He promised to come
She's disappearing from his life
She's been replaced with better
Something he always wanted
But she could never give
Please,
God please, don't let him forget her

Stop
That's enough.
Anything more and there won't be anything left
Find the sharpest knife
Like an onion
Cut quickly to lessen the sting
Make sure to slice through any remaining layers
One more time for good luck
Oh God, how she missed this
Now throw it all away.
