Color dances upon his wings
And with that color he will bring
A magnificent new beauty to my eye.
Upon my finger, my butterfly.
True that he is small
But simply all I see
His dance of flight, to lift my fall
Bring life unto me.
Wings shielding from the nightmare
As this becomes a dream.
Suddenly I need more air
Suddenly I cannot scream
Trapped within this beautiful spell
Nothing is what it seems.
I couldn't see
How I ever though he'd stay
Fear became me
As he begun to fly away.
My heart beated slow
And the colors became a lie
I couldn't let him go!
I reached out and grabbed my butterfly.
He fluttered beneath my grip
I'm holding on to tight
I can feel out lives slip
I knew neither could win the fight.
As I gripped my butterfly
Fear gripped me
I couldn't let him die
Because the same would happen to me.
If I set him free
I'd shatter my own heart
He would be happy
But I'll be torn apart
I guess this wasn't meant to last
O my butterfly!
Must you fly so fast?
I cannot bear goodbye!
But I slowly open my hand
Because I love him so
Maybe next he'll take care to where he lands
Sometimes when you love something,
you have to let it go.
