Liberty Cries

Liberty Cries

Around a harbor full of lies,
A lady stands, shame in her eyes,
Bows her head and begins to cry

They live their life of crime
Never scared of doing time
Scott free never paying a dime

Street life vagrants and thugs
Six foot holes continually dug
Supporting habits, selling drugs

Even from prison, if they are sent
Their victim's lives, filled with torment
With no intentions to ever repent

A bed, a roof, and three squares
Hell it's like we run daycares
We're armed, no rights we bear

Play Basketball and watch T.V.
After going on a killing spree
In America's prisons they are free

Slave to the world, lost values
Stands now before the accused
No explanation for these views

Political lies, amounts to bullshit
Never reformed when they acquit
Living free for crimes they commit

There is no cure, just allow parole,
Politicians fattening their own bankroll
In on the deal, we've lost control

She bows her head lets out a sigh
America the free, she tells the lie
In that harbor she still cries

Shocking, chilling, well written, and I also liked the overall pacing and format of the poem, it drives a steak through the heart of popular thinking

I love this poem. Talk about hit you to the core. Very well done. Prisons are like the Holiday Inn Express, they have all the comforts of home. Poor Lady in the Harbor, she was a Beacon of Hope, now only despair.
    Peace and Blessings
