What Sonny Showed me

by Raye   Apr 11, 2007

I hear it,
I hear this sound.

This sound makes me,
Makes me see.

I understand,
I understand what he's telling me.

He took me to a new place,
A place I have never been

I see my mother,
I see my uncle.

I saw how she lived,
I saw how he died.

I even felt the sadness,
Sadness of my daughter's death.

I felt my wife's pain.
I felt my own.

And when its done,
I came back home.

I understood Sonny,
I appreciated him.

He help me believe in his music,
In Sonny's Blues.

Based on the story "Sonny's Blues" by James Baldwin
