For Every Heartbeat

by Hey Brittknee   Apr 11, 2007

For every heartbeat,
That has ripped through my chest,
The ones where it skipped a beat,
Had to be the best.

Moments in life,
That made time stand still,
Are the heartbeats we want to remember,
But probably never will.

For every single heartbeat,
Coming from a heart of stone,
Brings back the realization,
You're alive but yet, alone.

And for every single heartbeat,
That pours though my veins,
Trying to put back the pieces of my heart,
From the heartbreak I have gained.

Heartbeats like a drum,
Racing In my skull.
Took too many pain pills
Now my vision begins to dull.

Heartbeat that slows down,
Slower and slower each time.
What was this life I lived in?
Even Living was a crime.

For every heartbeat that isn't there,
To make me feel alive,
Is another one of a dead girl,
Who no one can revive.

It flows well and is very poignant. I do feel like it would be better as two separate poems, though.
