This Burning Bridge

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Apr 12, 2007

Laying under the sunset - a silhouette in the Sailor's sky -
Painted across the horizon, the bodies of you and I,
And with my head on your chest, you swallowed your pride,
Turned your head as you told to me another pathetic lie -

My breath smelled of whiskey, my eyes blood shot red,
All of our little fights running through my pounding head,
But on my hands and knees I reach out my hand for you,
Screaming out shattered words to you that I wasn't untrue.

And with a blackened photograph, decaying in my hands,
I say good-bye to you and all of our future plans;
I'll strike this match and I'll watch you burn;
And when you beg for me, I'll tilt my head and turn -

Smiling because I know you finally got what you deserved,
And down this filthy path, where the road begins to curve,
I'll remember when you took my hand and softly said:
'This burning bridge between us is the final thread.'
