Bad Day

by Daisy if you do   Apr 12, 2007

Bad Day

Wanting to scream "life's just not fair"
Having a bad day whilst fixing my hair
The kids are fighting over what to wear
Pressed for time not a moment to spare

Homework folders that require signature
Brass paperweight that's lost its luster
Underneath it bills and one single brochure
Thoughts in my mind that we are so poor

Yelling at the kids "Ya'll better behave"
While eating breakfast from a microwave
Stumble out the door I am already late
To an appointment I forgot I had made

Speeding to school to make up lost time
Digging for change, weaving over the line
From the backseat my child starts to whine
Correcting my wheel to beat the deadline

Finally, to school they both are now dropped
Little did I know that I was being clocked
Blue-lights, pull over, now I am stopped
Forgetting my license in the purse I had swapped

I took the paper he gave me and put it away
I mumbled "Just great, another bill I can't pay"
Needing to get to work without further delay
The officer waited for me to pull out of the way

Later at work I unfolded what I thought was a ticket
Instead was a note from the cop that was handwritten
"Be thankful for each and every day you are given,
Never take for granted, your kids are still living"

Thinking as I put the paper back in my purse
We could have been hurt and in need of doctors
Now I will be thankful when a mishap occurs
Realizing that the day could have been worse

    Dixie,

Have you ever had one of those days... Yea, you had to have had, because you wrote of it so perfectly.

Sometimes, you just have to step out of the way and breath... I know, I've been there and done that.

I learned that unless it's a matter of life and death, sometimes you just have to take a step back, and let the chips fall where they may. It's better that things get done late, than not at all.

    Good write.

    Always,
    Jeannie
