Eternal Darkness

by tyanna   Apr 12, 2007

I used to see you each morning,
when I awoke to start my day.
You were heading for the corner,
to hold your sign and pray.

I would watch you as I ate my breakfast,
wondering how you got this way,
Drugs, I assumed but had no idea,
of the pain you endured during your days.

I remember when I got the courage,
to talk to you that sunny day.
You had a look of total surprise,
no one had ever taken an interest in your life.

You said each and everyday,
you faced this world of hate,
That the day you lost your wife and child,
is the day you lost your way.

I cried when you told me this,
wishing there was more that I could do.
You said you didn't want my pity,
a hot plate of food would do.

I continued watching you each morning,
after I awoke to start my day.
I feared for what this world would turn you into.
And I didn't know what to say.

I asked you why you didn't run,
why you didn't cry.
Why you didn't shout,
because your life was passing you by.

You didn't have much to say back,
A few lines is all it took.
You had an answer for each question,
These are the exact words you spoke.

"Who do you turn to
when no one cares?
Why try to run?
There's no place to hide.

Why bother to cry?
No one sees my tears
Why try to shout?
No one will hear."

Your words were spoken softly,
but the message was loud.
You soul has been lost,
Never to be found.

I knew the hatred in this world,
would soon get to you.
And I cried as I told you this,
but you knew it was true.

I said "Your heart will soon grow cold,
and pain will no longer hurt.
Anger will consume your thoughts.
Any possibility of love will be lost.

Trapped in your own prison,
is where you will stay.
You will live in eternal darkness,
for you'll grow far to cold over the days."

Again very powerful and so heart breaking. It is a shame that you have lived through all this in such a short time.

Sadly, this is becomming more the norm now days for the next generation.

Keep your head up kid and set your eyes on the future.

    - I really like this lines.
Whole poem is very touching, and the imagery in it is great.
Last stanza is my favorite, you ended the poem very good.
I like it's flow and the wording is good, too.
