Wasn't For Me

by Debbie   Apr 15, 2007

The sound of his voice reverberates,
Inside her ears it fluctuates.
To her delight, she wants to hear.
Its melody now brings her tears.

Staring in his eyes, wondering what's there.
Beneath the flesh, mystery lies bare.
The want to know, the want to see,
If love can hold you back or set you free.

To see him smile takes the heart a leap.
His melodious laughs stopping her to weep.
To feel his presence lingering near,
She'll no longer face tomorrow with fear.

To her dismay, discovering what lies beneath;
Learning a reality, she can hardly breathe.
Listen in his heartbeat, hear its symphony.
"The rhythm in his soul wasn't even of me."

It pains to know what truth reveals,
A feeling she knows he'll never feel.
For the love he has inside isn't for her.
"It wasn't for me, it was for Jennifer..."

This is a very nice poem. Extremely heartfelt and emotional. You almost made me cry... I like how you compare people's voices to music. "Listen in his heartbeat, hear its symphony.
"The rhythm in his soul wasn't even of me."" Great job with this poem.
