Into the River

by Kayla   Apr 15, 2007

On that day,
she talked with the love of her life.
He wasn't very happy,
and she wasn't surprised.

That night she got a call,
and he was on the phone.
They hadn't spoke,
he finally told her,"I gotta go."

A few minutes later,
she got another call.
It wasn't him,
but the worst of all.
All she heard was,"He wants to break up.",
before she broke down in tears.

She threw the phone,
the lamp,
she threw everything.
She screamed and cried,
she just wanted to die.

After that day,
she always guarded her heart.
She put on a mask,
just to hide her broken heart.

Two years later,
she still remembers that day.
She still remembers his eyes,
his love,
how she was once his everything.

One that cold night,
she walked onto the cliff.
As she clutched that locket to her chest,
she kept thinking,"This is for the best."

"I still love you.." is all that she whispered,
before she jumped off the cliff,
and into the river.

The overall image of this poem was great. It was a typical thing that happens these days, which is awesome because than people can relate to it. However, I think the flow could be cleaned up a bit, as well as a stronger ending. The entirety of the poem was very strong, it sent a sad image, and than the ending was sort of dull. Don't get me wrong, it ends it to end it, and doesn't keep the reader in suspense..but you should work on piecing together the strength line by line instead of bunching it in the middle..and then the end should be a BAM type thing when you read it.

I'm sorry if none of that made sense, it's very late lol. But anyways, I did like this poem; but I think it could much better with some fixing up. =)
