Lament of a Vampire.

by Saraphene   Apr 16, 2007

Floating like glass
on the surface of the mind.
Never truly touching
anything I find.

I remain alone
by nature of my curse.
The sounds of sorrow long ago
replaced by a silence that’s worse.

Confined to a space inside myself
I listen to the bell tower chime.
My secret and inner sanctum
turned prison by the passage of time.

A sanguine addiction
I can not delay.
The urge within is rising
and the innocent shall pay.

I take to the sky
in a form not my own.
And find a young boy
a long way from home.

Swiftly I land
one glance of my eye.
The child is dead
and I've no since of pride.

"At least it was quick"
I think as I feel.
His warm, salty blood
so very unreal.

As always I feel as I stand over his body
that I've done something wrong.
But the sun is coming up
and it's time I was gone.

I watch from my tower
safe in the shade.
First of all when they find him
then his funeral parade.

The nights drawing on
as the violent urge grows.
The lament of a vampire
Nobody knows...
