Pathos

by sibyllene   Apr 17, 2007

This descent
into love, it was as
inexorable
as the coming of fall-
that beautiful, doomed season
when the trees bloom
while the flowers fade,
and the fullness of the world transforms-
a dark metamorphosis
like a butterfly who, petal wings folded,
swaths itself in sleep and shell again.
Love, this is,
that brings the end of life
in a burst of color-
the dying tree crowned with the mad, exultant glory
of the setting sun.

Truly beautiful. I love reading poems that incorporate nature. I liked how you used the beginnings and endings of nature's cycles throughout as a metaphor for love (seasons changing, blooming of flowers, sunsets, a burst of colour, a dying tree). It was sad (doomed) at the same time as being peaceful (beautiful), the mourning of one thing going, and the celebration of a new thing coming to life.

Hey, I really like this! I had reread it several times, and it still has the same magical effect which captivated me at first read. It's so beautiful. Love's tragedy incorporated to the changing seasons equals bloody brilliant. I'm glad to have come across such an artistic piece of work. I commend your consistency!

    Take care,

I don't think anything needs to be changed. It has a lot of great vocabulary that blends well. Great job. :]
