Nationalism

by PygmyPuff   Apr 17, 2007

Members of a country,
Love their place of birth.
But do they realize,
What their nation is worth?

It draws people together,
Sharing a common culture.
But it also divides people,
Who think they are too pure.

Ethnocentric ideas may be common,
But who could deny it?
Blinding, is the government.
Soon will spiral into a dark pit.

We all love our country,
But how do we prevent war?
It's caused from thoughts of superiority,
That will go on forever.

How simple but filling! Very strong poem that put's 'Nationalism' into perspective, flowed great and kept me hooked till the very end.

    did you mean [W]ould?

If not I'm simply crazy xD

Your last two lines definately state the crux of the problem. I really loved the content of your poem. The second stanza was actually my favorite of this poem you wrote.
