You don't know(child abuse)

by Tracy D Rollings   Apr 19, 2007

Did you ever wonder what it was like
to be the child that screamed at night
to lay bed and try to sleep
with thoughts in your head that run so deep

trying to figure out why you'll here
hurting knowing that you live in fear
you want to cry but you don't dare
because you knew they didn't care

to go to bed and not get to eat
because you made them mad and you got beat
to hold your head and start to cry
sometimes i even wanted to die

to feel the pain every time he hit
and wonder if he'll ever quit
sometimes the pain hurt really bad
but it only got worse when i made him mad

but he wasn't the only one in this
because she did it to, like she couldn't resist
not so funny to go to bed
with your hand holding a swollen head

to go to school in dirty clothes
why they treated you this way, no one knows
the pain that they inflicted will never heal
but there are some that will never know how i feel

i stand there and take every lick
want to fight back, i want to kick
i try so hard to resist the pain
but sometimes it's enough to drive a child insane

so before you start to judge a child
you better stop and think a while
because you don't know, what a child has been through
unless you have actually had it happen to you

so sit and think about what i said
and please let it sink in your head
please understand and love your child
treat them right and make em smile.©2007 Tracydr42

Wow this is deep, you actually made me think about how i see some kids comin to school not looking i guess as good as others, and i never thought that maybe their life wasnt so great! I love it, and it taught me something.

This is really hard to read. I have a little nephew who is being abused by his mother like this. My brother is fighting to gain custody. Yet the system keeps sending him back. We need to fight more for the children. Excellent job on this write.

Okay, it's very rarely that I read a poem and it actually brings me to tears. The emotion in this was heartbreaking. So true never judge a child from the clothes or actions they have, and only try to help nourish that child into a better situation.
