Town's Bane

by Rhys   Apr 19, 2007

Deep shadows now in old town's center
Fear drips here, helter skelter.
Locked homes, dimmed lights
All are inside by fall of the night.

Superstition heavy in the air
People hide out of fear.
Single step carries well
Usual time all's not well.

Found dead now with holes in neck
Puddle of blood, unwelcome death.
In dark alleyways violence supreme
Stay away from this grisly scene.

Shadowy creature of the night
Shirks the light for darkness delight.
To step outside is your own peril
Death greets you or unlife tender.

Late night sounds are absent now
As far into fear the town does plow.
And myths again walk streets by night
While people wish for the sunlight.

Midnight arrives, uneasy rest,
While fools death comes, not even a test.
Found far into morning, sunlight around,
Found's reckless youth formerly proud.

More go missing each night it prowls
Death claims most with some unfound.
Unfound they stay, in daylight hours,
Though nighttime comes to embrace their power.

Left by day the city is
Cloud of sorrow covers it.
Townsfolk leave and tell their tales
Everyone that hears them pales.

The tales die down the legend fails
People ignore superstitious tales.
Vampyric eyes open again
As scent of blood invades the den.

Awoken now from their long rest
Nightmares walk the streets again.
Disappearances begin again
As hell breaks loose in city's vein.
