Mirrored Self

by Kate   Apr 20, 2007

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror?
I mean really looked.

Not looking to put on make up or to see how big your bum looks in those new jeans.

I mean sat and looked. Sat and concentrated on every tiny detail.

Every freckle, every curve. Every inch of skin and every length of hair.

Looked deep into your own eyes. Looked at the person you see now sitting and staring at you.

Seen the child. Scraped knees and her childish fairy tale dreams. Dreams soon lost over passing years

The teenager. Spots and teen angst. Lust for boys she can't have and progression into the real world.

And now the young adult. Full of possibility, ready to take on life. Ready to face the demons and challenge those who doubt her.

It's a scary thing. To know that this is you.

This person sat staring out of the glass... is actually you.
