Pink Brush

by dollwithafrown   Apr 22, 2007

Standing in the mirror, staring fixatedly on her reflection,
She scans her body close, for her very own protection.
A delicate silhouette, shivering ever so slightly,
She picks up her gown, wrapping it around tightly.

Slowly moving her hand, she touches a sensitive breast,
Knowing that this flaw may be what puts her to rest.
A crystal tear drops from those golden brown eyes,
She wipes it away roughly, can't let anyone see her cries.

They say that pink is the colour, reflecting a deadly disease,
Breast cancer is a killer, and this woman is on her knees.
"Please don't let me die," she begs anybody who will listen.
Praying that soon her world will start to glisten.

A pink brush with fate, is all that it takes.
It steals you of a life, and raises high the stakes.
A fifty to one chance, or maybe make that a hundred.
"How could this happen?" she asks, bewildered.

Millions of people have suffered before,
Yet many are clueless to what is in store.
Be smart with your body, check it right through,
You never know if the colour pink will get you.

A crystal tear drops from those golden brown eyes,
[[Creative "crystal tear" thing. I do not believe I've ever heard that before. =] And, I'd say "blue" instead of "brown" just because when I see the word "crystal" I think of a blue color...only a suggetion, though!]]

Ahh. This is ... oh my god ... beautiful. It hits home to the heart and makes you really think. I didn't know what it was about until the last stanza; I love when a poem does that.
    Wow. Beautifully penned. Absoluetely.

Wow this was amazing not at all what I was expecting, it totally took me by suprise. From the first two stanzas I thought it was going to be on depression or self hate or something like that then with the third stanza I changed my mind completely. Nice write, very original not something Ive read about before and you managed to do that in a very creative way. 5/5
