Looking through the window

by Chelsey   Apr 22, 2007

Its cold and a bit snowy outside
I stand in my trench coat and hat
I'm lacking sleep ; I'm so hungry
You'd never guess I used to be fat

I stood at the end of the sidewalk
And looked through the window of their home
I've made so many mistakes and now realize
Their love was the only I've ever known

My wife left me when the twins were four
After I lost my job and fell in love with alcohol
Now I sleep on cardboard with other men in an alley
Instead of being surrounded by warm loving walls

Through the window I see my children
Now sitting on their step-dads lap
My daughter now big in her ballerina dress
My son so handsome in his baseball cap

You see some people have windows to look out of
But I have to look through theirs
Hoping one day they'd look out
Hoping one day one of them would care

The window I look through
Is full of warmth, kisses, and hugs
The window I look through
Is filled with family love

But who stands on the outside unwelcomed?
Poor, dirty, little old me
Wishing one day they would look out
And actually love the man that they see

Perhaps one day they'd feel courteous
And just invite me in
If only they could have some forgiveness
And realize we all commit sins

Excellent job on your poem. The way you took this and had your person looking in a window instead of out....was surely a diffrent way to look at things.

Really good job on this one Chels!.. I've always walked through the streets downtown and noticed the homeless people, and I always wondered what their stories were. You never really know. I really love your poems hun, they really make me think, and wonder about things going on in this world! You have so much talent!.. Keep writing!..
