Never Wake

by Synh   Apr 23, 2007

There's only you in my dreams
Every night that's all I see
I never want to wake up
They will never let us be

Only at night can we love
At day we must hide
We can't speak to one another
Only kiss with our eyes

To them we are too different
From our skin to our hair
Even our eye color differs
Whatever the reason, they don't care

You belong to your kind
And I belong to mine
They say we can never happen
We are not enough alike

But isn't it they who differ from us
Killing one another with their hate
Wanting us to conform to their life
Trying to decide our fate

If only love truly conquered all
Maybe we could finally be together
Living life the way it should be
As light and care free as a feather

*My high school performed the infamous play West Side Story and I was in the pit orchestra (clarinets rule :P ) I wrote this during one of our rehearsals. It's supposed to be Maria speaking mentally to Tony.

I like this write. to me i think my favorite lines have to be the 5th stanza. it speaks to me more than the rest and has enough thought for its own poem in my eyes. (:

    good work.

Hmmm...don't really know west side story...
but it kinda reminds romeo and juliet...
now, about the poem itself =) :

the theme you chose is beautiful, it flows very nicely and it makes the reader fell like you are speaking to him/her...

At my highschool we just finished our unit on Romeo and Juliet, so I totally get where you're comming from. (We had to rewrite the prologe sonnet, perhaps I should submit that poem . . .) Anyways, very well writen. 5/5
