Crossing Paths

I crossed a path with death today
he said hello as he walked my way
why did i seem to recognize him so?
he held my hand; I let his go

"come with me" he said so calm
"there is a place where I am from
where you can have sweet peace and rest
and treatment as if you were the very best"

I looked at him square in the face
dear sir, you must have me by mistake
i am enjoying the weary life i live
perilous it may be, but it is what i wish

he reached for my hand; i pulled it back
he sneered at me and lurched to attack
life then came, and stood between
my fragile self and the hands of my enemy

death ran frantically, down it's crooked path
life had pushed him away and held me back
i walked towards home, and lo, eternity
came over the hill, and crossed paths with me!

    What a unique topic!
    And so powerful too.
The rhythm is spot on and you've done a terrific job with your imagery!
