My Dearest Lenore

by Italian Stallion   Apr 24, 2007

My dearest Lenore,
What will I remember
as I draw my last breath?
For my desire for you
Will soon be my death.

Here I lay, weak as can be
amongst the valley,
the shadow of the deceased.
Looking upon,
the moon and stars.

If I should pass away before I wake,
I pray the lord my soul to take.
"Lord help my poor soul."
And keep it under control.
Or is that an unattainable goal?

At the hour of my demise,
A desperate cry for love.
As the Angel of the deceased,
from heaven above
Grants my wish.

Embracing the last hours of my life
that's soon to come,
I give you my love
my dearest Lenore,
as my life takes its toll.

Very good. I really enjoyed the story line and plead/begging in it it showed more detail when you give more then one emotion in a poem it was very good! keep it up

Poe's love for Lenore was truly great. Amazing how the one thing that gives you life can also take away the very breath you breathe and leave you yearning for death.

Though in the end it must be said that despite the pain and heartbreaking death, their love was truly one that every person at some point in life wishes to obtain.

You have a way with the keystrokes to show both sides of love in a few simple verses. While the heartbreak is clearly there so is the desire to obtain such high heartfelt emotions.
