Driving her out of my mind

by doug frazier   Apr 26, 2007

Looking through the window of this rolling automobile
I've traveled a million miles, but I can see her still.

I see her in the mirror, on the billboards that I pass,
I see her on the postcards, every time I stop for gas.

I can never outrun her memory; it finds me every time,
That's why I just keep driving, driving her out of my mind.

To the corners of the continent, to the oceans deep and blue,
But I always have to turn around, what's a broken man to do?

Another town, another road, an endless ribbon of black
Every time I close these tear filled eyes, I know she's coming back.

Coming back to haunt, me, a peaceful place is hard to find,
That's why I just keep driving, driving her out of my mind.

I don't know where I'll be tomorrow, if I make it through today,
One thing I know for sure, I'll find her along the way.

In the rainbow after the thunderstorm, in the puddles by the road,
Every mile, every turn, she's everywhere I go.

So these wheels will just keep rolling, until I find the end of these lines,
And me, I'll just keep driving, driving her out of my mind . . . .

Your poets heart unfurls itself willingly and lends its words to us to float and drift among our own words. Good work, I enjoyed your poem and look forward to more.

Perfect for how I've been feeling time and time again. I can't forget her, no matter what happens. Good stuff.
