Mechanism of a Broken Heart

&& I want someone to love
but my heart is back in lock down.
Those three words that I once held so dear
are now the main source of my fears.

Every word slipped past his tongue;
he who uttered those poisoned words to me
almost with an air of carelessness.
Every word he spoke, packed with lies
so precise, my mind believed them true.

And so the mechanisms of a broken heart begin.
Once begun, there is no end.
There's a kink in the gears.
Memories from the tainted past
slowing the ever-beating tempo
From a strong, convincing beat, to a barely audible whisper.

As time wears on, the heart begins to learn.
With every mistake, comes consequence.
With every flaw, comes weakness.
A heart begins to cover up scars
and disguse each tear for a smile.

When all is hidden, on-lookers from a far
only see a simple heart, blood red painted so perfectly
not a shadow of its past to be seen.

But once a heart is scarred,
that scar is there forever.
"All scars can be hidden" you say,
But paint is only as deep as the surface.

Deep down, you know
the light will never shine
like it always did before.

And so the mechanisms of a broken heart continue.
Forever poisioned. Forever deceiving,
<b>Forever there.
