Tears and smiles

by judith redmount   Apr 27, 2007

Tears and smiles
are gathered in one
more tears less smiles
a delighted young child
jumps out of the crash
he has survived
the others are silent
and stiff
they cannot move
nor can they ask
for a glass of milk
as I climb out
it looks like daylight
the fire nearby
I search for tears
to laugh
and a smile to cry
tears and smiles
are gathered in one
