Harder Than I Pretend

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Apr 27, 2007

I'm riding shotgun in the seat right next to him,
Down the dirt roads in the front of his old blue chevy,
And I smile, 'cuz I can read the stories in his eyes,
Wasting away to a mess wishing that I could be -

The flawless girl that he tells me about, as he sighs:
"She takes my breath away, but she doesn't know"
And I pull myself together with a smile, as I say:
"Just think it through before you let yourself go."

And later tonight, I'll put that note away one more time,
Look at the picture you gave me with a tear in my eye,
As I mutter to myself: "Pretending to just be your friend,
Is harder than I pretend, but for your sake, I'll still lie."

I really liked your poem. I can relate to how harrd it is to pretend to just be friends, and I think you expressed it very well. Great poem.

Wow Jenna. I felt like you opened my heart about a week ago and poured all the feelings I had about my best friend and this is what you came up with. It blew me away. I loved everything about it, the flow, the wording, the rhymes, everything. I would nominate this if I still had a vote left... :]

The words you've writen remind me so much of a song by the country singer Taylor Swift. *smiles* I really like your poem. You should listen to her song its called: "I'd Lie." Well, take cares, tootles.
