The Swing

by ForeverYoung   Apr 27, 2007

(old poem from my old account "Never Trust Again"
plz rrc again all coments are returned!
xxx)

There is an empty swing
That hangs in my back yard
Just beyond our back deck
On a tree not out too far

You used to push me on that swing
Everyday after school
We laughed, and joked, and played
And acted like two fools

And fools in love we were
This you had to prove to me
A vow of everlasting love
You carved into that tree.

It was our senior year,
As I sat upon the Swing
You bent down onto your knees
And gave to me a ring

You promised me when school let out
That you would marry me out here
Right here in my own backyard
Where we played for so many years

Now I sit on the same swing
With my head in my hands I cry,
For graduation came and went
And you were not by my side

You were always very careful
You never drank or did drugs.
But someone else took a chance
And killed my one true love

Somehow I must forgive that person
Because perhaps he was never taught,
That when you drink, then decide to drive
Someone's life is put on the spot

His parents should have told him
What can happen while flying high
But there's nothing I can do now
Because you're both up in the sky.

I run my fingers over the carving
You wrote in that old tree.
It's the only thing that makes me smile
Because I know you once loved me

The swing has lost its purpose
And all the love that it once held
Now there's only one choice left for me
Even though I know I'm going to Hell.

Please tell God to forgive me
And I pray that you can't see,
All the love I'm about to lose
Because depression got the best of me

I raise the knife up to my wrist
And close my eyes real tight.
Soon it'll all be over with
This nightmare finally out of sight

Lastly I say my final words
"I love you darling, I do"
Painfully I let out a scream
As my breaths grows so few.

Gently I sit back on the Swing
And slowly close my eyes.
I hope my family can understand
Why I knew I had to die

The once was an empty Swing
That swayed in my backyard.
It told the story of my life
Before it became so hard

Wow... I love this poem... you could just picture the swing... and everything that was happening... beautifully written, very very sad... it's a wonderful yet heartbreaking poem... I love these lines:

Somehow I must forgive that person
Because perhaps he was never taught,
That when you drink, then decide to drive
Someone's life is put on the spot

I love it because it shows such compassion to forgive someone for that kind of pain. The whole poem was simply AMAZING. Keep writing :-)

Well first of even though this poem is long like Shadow stalker said 'It's their loss". Because I think every moment I spent reading it was worth it. I loved the poem, I loved the feeling, I loved the sadness portrayed when you loose someone you love, and most of all I love its innocence and it shows the harsh reality of life. I don't know, but this poem somehow really touched me. I really really like it. 5/5 wouldn't do it justice, but this website won't let me vote more than once...so gosh! :(
