What Kind of Monster

by Kurt   Apr 28, 2007

Says he would give his soul
Just see that beautiful girl smile
And drops a red rose on her step
Every once and a while

Takes her by the hand at the park
To lead her safely through the debris
And opens all the doors for her
Just so she can travel stress free

Stays up for hours listening to her
Comforting her in the worst of times
And abandons his latest poems
So he can cleanse her of her crimes

Bends over backward for her
Attempting to save the relationship
And holds her hands when she walks
Ready to catch her if she slips

Refuses to abandon the truth
Whenever he's pressured to
And writes poetry for her
As a way to show I love you

Takes that beautiful girl to prom
In hopes she enjoys the night
And puts his body on the line
Shielding her from the fight

What kind of monster ruins a friendship
That has lasted three long blissful years
And gives that beautiful girl an email
That puts her on her knees in tears

What kind of monster feels nothing
After he makes such a choice
And never acts phased at all
Speaking without a shake in his voice

What kind of monster thinks back on it all
Yet continues to still move on ahead
And loves the beautiful girl he dumped
Until the moment he lies dead

What kind of monster
Engages in a kiss among trees
And looks back with a melancholy joy
Well, that monster, is me

To be honest, I didn't like this at all.

I don't know..it just seemed..rushed, sort of like you started it but then continued half heartedly.

I didn't like the rhyming it seemed cliche and I thought you could have used more imagery throughout.

I enjoyed the closing stanza, but the rest of the piece just seemed weak to me.

Wow! I love it! Sucha powerful piece of writing. The imagery is great and I like the ambiguity of the poem. 5/5
