Cherished Doll

by Stephenie   Apr 28, 2007

You were my cherished doll.
I set you free.
That day when I put you down,
On the sidewalk with care,
I set you free.

As the little girl,
I knew would stroll by,
Stopped and stared,
At my lovely doll.
I set you free.

And as she picked you up,
And held you in her arms,
My heart fell and shattered,
On that very curb.
Where I set you free.

As time went by,
I grew and grew.
Never knowing,
That one fair morning,
Walking by,
I'd find the spot where left you that day.

And in your place,
I would find a note.
And as I clutch it in my hands,
Reading aloud:

"Love something, then set it free,
Deep inside your heart,
You'll never lose the memory."

There on that curb,
Were I'd left my cherished doll,
So many years ago,
I finally find myself,
And in my heart I know.
You set me free.
