Box Of Memories.

by Forever   Apr 28, 2007

Up in my room, on a darkened shelf,
In a tattered, tarnished box,
There lies my memories.
From when you swore you loved me.
I avoid it.

A polystyrene heart that you spent hours
Poking sequins on with pins,
To make it shine.
It was pink but with one silver scale.
You said that silver was not as bright as your love.

A wooden heart that you had carved
And painted,
Like when we enscribed our love
On a tree, for all to see,
I remember that day.

A folded scrap of paper
On it written was an oath, I remember
You wrote it in a yellow heart, edged with purple,
and in it wrote,
"Like the flower loves the dawn, I love you."

A xmas card that you had written,
A creative poem scribbled in,
You used your messy writing but I could see,
You tried to me it neat,
Just for me.

But how, how was I supposed to know
Pretty soon all the romance would die,
You'd become shy, you would now deny,
All feelings. My arms are marked from your fingers,
Your rage inprinted.

So I fought you away and ran home.
Grasped the items that I had lovingly placed by my bed,
Threw them in the oldest box I could find and hid it away,
Where not even I could reach it,
Too many memories cling to it.
Far too many.

(I won't remove this poem since it's a memory for me, but it's worth mentioning that now, many years after, the man in this poem has passed away. RIP)
