Swordmates

by Chad Picard   Apr 28, 2007

I face you
through blades that have
been, by battle, crossed

And from but feet away
likewise, you face me.

As we feel the increase in war's fire
and rage around us
we each jokey for position
racing ourselves and each other
to find who will add to the pyre

Until we both see crosses
on our heart's chest homeland
And forward my blade moves on yours,
Just as I was trained.

like the dummy your pale form now resembles
my blade stabbed to your quick
and gave you your final tremble
As I left you dead on the field

Could we, my friend,
Ever have gotten along?

I'm not absolutely certain that this is sufficiently "violence-free" I don't personally see it as violent, per say. Rather, my intent with this piece was/is to express the sadness/regret conflict creates, even on the part of the 'victors.'
