Someone I'll never be

by doug frazier   Apr 30, 2007

I lie in my room and stare at the wall,
I put on some music as the tears start to fall.
Over in the corner sits an old rocking chair
when I close my eyes, I can see you there.
Rocking to the rhythm of an old country song,
humming in harmony, as if nothing was wrong.

But you know your smile never could hide your pain
you never shared your feelings, wouldn't try to explain.
Now the reason's so clear, now that you're gone,
you were waiting and watching for a time to move on.
You wanted someone that I'd never be
now in your life, I'm an old memory.

A love that you toyed with, then just cast aside
you may have left with my heart, but I still have my pride.
So don't look for my letter or wait on my call
because after today no more tears are going to fall.
One less car in driveway, more room for my truck,
and maybe, who knows? It might change my luck.

I can't always be last in this losers game
love has to be out there and I'm not ashamed.
I have no regrets it's time that I try
to find someone new, and kiss your memory good-bye.
Because you wanted someone that I 'd never be
now in your life, I'm an old memory.

A love that you toyed with, then just cast aside
you may be left with my heart, but I still have my pride.
So don't look for my letter or wait on my call
because after today, no more tears are going to fall.

Thanks Andrea, I see you've found your way to the sad side of some of my poetry. I can tell you that many of these were written from the ink the tears made on my pillow while they were being created. As always, it's a pleasure having you review my work. Thanks doll. Hugs from Doug
