My Favorite Masterpeice

by just me   May 1, 2007

We lie on this blanket,
up under the stars,
And I can't explain how happy I am
being in your arms.

You prop yourself up,
and look out at the beautiful sight
for the lake sparkles wondrously
under the moon at night.

You listen to the crickets chirp.
The music's all around.
Their beautiful melody,
Such a peaceful sound.

You breathe in deeply
the scent of the forest and the lake.
You store it in your mind,
to keep it for keeps- sake.

You ran your hand along the tree
pondering how many couples have experienced the beauty of this place.
How many have made love up under these stars,
and the next day were gone without a trace?

I softly touch your face
and you look down into mine.
Then all of a sudden you realize,
I've been watching you the whole time.

As you were looking at the lake
I was looking at those dark eyes.
They glitter like the surface of the lake,
Shine brighter than the stars in the night sky.

As you were listening to the crickets chirp
I was listening to my heart beat fast,
playing a special song for you,
A song about love that would last.

And as you were breathing in the scent of the lake,
I was breathing in yours.
The one I inhale every time we embrace,
The one that leaves me wanting more.

As you ran your hand along the bark,
the bark of that old tree,
that's when you finally looked down,
and finally noticed me.

I wonder how many couples,
have experienced our kind of love.
The love I fall asleep
sweetly dreaming of.

I sit up slowly
and on each cheek I place a hand.
I lean in and taste a piece of heaven,
While praying you'll always be my man,

I don't need to look at the nature around me.
Yes, it's beautiful i dare say.
But you're my favorite piece of art,
intoxicating in every way.

Another great poem. i like how you intertwined a kind of "nature" concept into the poem w/o actually making the poem about nature. i love the final two lines!
