Something in the Dark

by Bradley Peter   May 2, 2007

Something's a lurking, around the back
Creeping in the shadows, preparing to attack
It's dark and it's late, so you speed up the pace
You even start to run, but it just gives chase
You can hear whispers, how many can there be
So many footsteps, but it's too dark to see
You stay in the light, it must be safer there
But this thing that's chasing, does it really care
Light or dark, perhaps to them it's all the same
Maybe it can catch you, but it just prefers the game
You call for help, but all are tucked away in bed
You'd have been there too, if you knew what lay ahead
But you still keep calling, towards the empty space
Just hoping, wishing, praying, to find a friendly face
It's getting closer and closer, you can even feel it's breath
Now true terror's kicking in, now your scared half to death
But oh no, you trip, and your down on the floor
You want to keep running, but you can't anymore
But you stagger to your feet, and begin to try your best
But the monster catches up, and no one knows the rest

I have to say, I really enjoyed the ending, I liked how you left it open, as that leaves the reader's imagination free to roam.
Within the first few lines I was hooked and I thought it got better from there.
The flow was flawless throughout, and the imagery you created was wonderfully done.

I'm at a loss for words.
As i was reading this, i found myself drawing closer and closer to the screen as i began to genuinly care about what was going to happen. It felt like i was on edge.
And the ending was a stroke of genuis. It leaves it open for the reader to interpret what was happening..
    Outstanding..
