The Foundations

by Sarah Davis   May 2, 2007

When we came to an abrupt end,
I thought my world had crumbled.
Thinking the foundations had been set,
Although now I see they were built in sand.
At first they started to sink,
All our hopes and our dreams.
Until they had been swallowed and never to be again.
Along the way our foundations cracked,
Splintering and chipping off so slowly.
I could see so clearly that we would fall,
Yet I still clung to you.
Until the storms came,
Raging and whipping and strong,
What fragile bit was left of us was swallowed and swept away.
Ripped away and torn out to sea,
All our foundations were lost.
And although we've went our seperate ways,
In my heart I know these storms will abate.
I know the sun will shine again without you.
