I No Longer Exist

by Angel   May 3, 2007

I stand on the edge - the edge of the Living World, on the brink of the Dead. I open my arms, a bird ready to fly. The Wind wraps me in a loving hug, and then, stings my eyes; adding more tears to the ones already rolling down my face. I smile a bitter smile, knowing that the Wind too was but a hypocrite......just one among the others.
I stand still, eyes closed, heart thumping. I open my eyes to find the velvety Dark waiting with open arms, and am eager to be wrapped in its velvet blanket of Oblivion
I inch forward - eyes shut, a smile playing on my lips; knowing that in a few seconds I would finally be able to let go, put my mind at ease, be free and just be me.
A tense moment before a moment of sweet surrender, a moment when I bow out of the race of life, when all things beautiful seem to lye on the other side of the bridge.
One step, one tiny step is all that keeps me from the comfort of sorrow. So I take that tiny step. I move forward another inch, and my foot is off the ground - the cold hand of Death reaching out for it
I free fall into darkness, taste the sweet surrender, feel liberated from the cage of life, feel the peace of the dead

I no longer exist.
