Metaphor of Yore

by Bill Turner   May 3, 2007

Shots ring out in the night
Bricks crashing through the windows
Mayhem comes after dark
Another soul for the hungry street
Working the angle with each person I meet

Penguins trying to set me straight
The hand of God striking me at each turn
Pain passes and then it is gone forever
Wild and refusing to be tamed
Parents not the one to be blamed

Rockets and explosions mark the beginning of sex
Like a pirate, taking all I can with no thought
Trends become twists and bends in my life
Wild, untamed...loving all that swoon
Passion and fire...dancing on the face of the moon

Gripping me tight in its icy claw
Angel of death ripping at the door
Mercurially slipping away into the night
Bluffing my way through the hand of life
Fake it until you make it...always giving strife

Childlike and new I have become
New eyes showing me the world
Soft hands and heart opening the door
Ethereal plane of love beneath my feet
Noticing her soft eyes on the day we did meet

Haunted by demons past, never escaping
Twisted like a pretzel when the nightmares come
Blood forever on my hands, as she sleeps beside me
Holding me like an angel, when the night sweats come
Curt Cobain said it best, "I feel dumb"

Like a warm blanket she soothes me
Not leaving this life by my hand
A change from days gone by
Drowning in booze and pills
No white line madness and thrills

I loved that! It held so much truth in it that it made me want to scream. I didn't, of course haha, but I really loved this poem. All of your poems hold so much emotion in them.

"The hand of God striking me at each turn"

^^ I really liked that line, it struck something with me. =)
