From Behind My Wall

by Void   May 4, 2007

I wish I knew how to stop loving you
How to hold people at a distance the way you do.
Because I hold you so close to me,
And so high in the waves of this ocean.
I can't see where I'm going,
but I don't care.
All I care about is if you'll make it to the surface.
And if you'll remember to take me with you.

I wish I knew how to live without you,
Without questioning life's worth.
How to watch each day go by,
knowing that I have a fall back plan.
But I threw mine away when I met you.
You were and are my only plan.
And I'm watching as my name is slowly smudged off your paper.
I hope you keep it hidden on your breath.

I wish my strength had its own guards,
And my heart to share a shield with yours.
It's so safe behind your eyes.
I know, because you let me in once before.
But I was pushed out before I could find where it was you kept my smile.
So I left a kiss for you.
I wonder if you know you have it...

I wish I knew how to stop loving you
How to hold people at a distance the way you do.
Because I hold you so close to me,
And so high in the tides.
I can't see where I'm going,
but I don't care.
All I care about is if you'll make it to the surface.
And if you'll remember to take me with you.

OK so this is by far my favorite!
i know exactly how you felt when you wrote this. I too once dated a guy that held everything back and just pushed everyone away, i tried so hard to get to him and i did then what i found scared me. but i love your poems i have to say, you are very talented and you really speak from the heartt (where the best poems come from). keep up the good work and i look forward to reading your poems soon :)

So true ..when one stops the love..we wish we can come out on top and unscathed like the ones who let us go. Great poem!
