The Girl Who Smiles

by brie kelly wise   May 4, 2007

25 coins and she hikes to the store
all alone wishing there was something more
her mother is crying in the other room
her father left when she was only two
the same old clothes every day
greasy hair, nothing to say
she feels likes she's homeless
yet she has a home
her mother never hugs her
her mother is never home
she doesn't go to school
and she's ten years old
she doesn't have friends
because they all seem cold
she lives a life of sadness and loneliness
where her mind is filled with denial
yet when nothing is going right,
all she can do is smile
