That was then this is now

by Geoff Clemence   May 4, 2007

I look at you through silky eyes so true and understanding
I see through shades and ragged edge to a heart thats so demanding
A past which is so far left behind yet a past which holds a truth
It's a sea of rolling waves which was the turbulence of your youth
It comes about that you live and learn and you learn to learn and live
And you learn to love and you learn to hate but mostly you learn to forgive
The ones who came to offer help are often the ones you most despise
A distorted view of a crystal clear image is seen through only distorted eyes
A mist of hate and a mist of love is a mist of confused feelings
A mist becomes so condensed that you drown within it's boundaries
But light shines through a waters depth and it clasps upon your skin
It guides you to a path of which you hope you will begin
To see through eyes so crystal clear with hopes and needs and dreams
To a life that's always filled with joy as before it's never been....

This is really great. Everything about it-the rhyme scheme, the flow, the vocabulary, imagery-this has it all, but mainly it is what you are saying and how you say it that make this stand out.
